Our disability services are person centred, accessible and strengths based. We provide quality support that assists people in realising their full potential through empowering approaches that:
Promote and support positive relationships, valued roles and inclusive communities
- Adapt to people's changing needs
- Develop people's skills and abilities
- Strengthen families
- Enhance decision-making and choice
- Focus on health and safety
- Develop resilience and independence
- Involve service users and their families in the design and review of their supports.
Sometimes it's hard to take a break when you're caring for someone who's living with a disability or needs special support. Our respite services are designed to meet the needs of the individual living with a disability while giving carers a well deserved break.
Families caring for a child with a disability often experience additional demands both in terms of the needs of the child with a disability and the impact on other persons in the family. Our Family Support programs aim to provide families with the skills, knowledge of the service system and access to resources they require to care for the child or young person with a disability. Our services are designed to support families in their caring role and to help prevent family breakdown. We believe in treating all families with respect and emphasise the strengths of family members. We provide counselling and strategic services as part of our Family Support programs.
The Taking Time (Respite Care) program supports families and other voluntary care givers of people living with a disability by offering flexible respite options such as:
- In home
- Life Without Barriers respite house
- Planned and emergency options
- Recreational and educational activities
- Home/family options
The program assists in supporting and maintaining the primary care giving relationship while providing a positive experience for the person living with a disability by employing a skill development focus during their respite care.
