The Respite House offers the opportunity for individuals with a disability to experience some time away from home in a supported, safe, positive and fun environment, while also providing an opportunity for families and carers to experience a much needed break from their caring role.
The Respite House is a spacious, purpose built low set house located in Railway Estate (one of Townsville's southern suburbs). The Respite House service is funded by Disability Services Queensland (DSQ) and staffed by the Respite House Supervisor and Disability Support Workers.
Who is eligible?
Respite House is accessible to individuals with disabilities who have been assessed as being eligible to receive a DSQ funded service; as defined within the Disability Services Act Qld 2006, who are aged up to 65 years, from Townsville and surrounding rural areas.
We have an Intake and Priority Assessment process that further determines eligibility and priority.
When can I access Respite House?
The Respite House is open 24 hours per day, seven days a week, for fifty weeks per year. Stays at the Respite House are time limited and the maximum a guest can stay per financial year is 63 days.
Three guests can be supported at any one time for planned respite stays.
We can accomodate an additional guest in emergencies, for guests that are known and registered with the program.
Given the group setting of the respite service and the heavy demand for respite, a booking system is in place and careful guest compatibility factors are followed when respite requests are confirmed.
Unfortunately from time to time there is a Respite House waiting list.
Access to the Respite House is made by contacting the Respite House Supervisor on 07) 4772 9000.
Fees
A fee schedule can be provided when contacting the Respite House Supervisor.
Note no client will be refused our service on the basis that they cannot pay.
