Blood oranges

 

The blood orange is a rich, sweet orange that’s available in Australia for a short time during spring.

Blood oranges are less acidic than regular ones and have softer flesh.

Is it good for me?

They’re are an excellent source of vitamin C, a good source of fibre and they also contain some beta carotene.
Buying and storing

Look for firm red-coloured oranges that are heavy for their size. Store in a plastic bag in the fridge for up to one month.
Preparation

Simply peel and enjoy, or cut into segments for use in salads.
Cooking tips

• Cut into segments and toss with watercress, feta and red onion. Drizzle with a wholegrain mustard vinaigrette.

• Peel and cut into pieces. Toss with couscous, toasted mixed nuts, shredded fresh mint and grated apple.
